You knew the first day of college would come — but not during high school.

UA Early College students whose parents are active members of the National Alumni Association also earn a book scholarship! You don't have to be a UA graduate to join the NAA.

It's probably hard to believe that your son or daughter is ready for college - especially in high school. UA Early College provides a unique opportunity for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to complete up to 30 college credit hours - that's almost a year of freshman level college coursework - online.

UA Early College prepares motivated high school students for long-term academic success by fostering personal accountability and excellent time-management skills, and by offering them the opportunity to take part in University "core curriculum" courses within an engaging learning community. In addition, your son or daughter may be eligible for a partial tuition scholarship while in UA Early College.

How does my student enter Early College?

Step 1:
Apply to UA Early College

Applicants will receive email and/or phone contact from UA Early College once their application materials are received. Students who are admitted to Early College move on to Step 2.

Step 2:
Participate in a Gateway Session

The Gateway Session marks the beginning of your first Early College course, UAEC 200: Gateway Academic Potential and is offered on the UA Campus or online. After participating in this session, you will complete the UAEC 200 course over the following 4 weeks. Once you have successfully completed and passed UAEC 200, you will receive two hours of college credit, and move on to Step 3.

Step 3:
Early College General Education Courses ("core curriculum")

These courses are:
  • Offered online year-round (fall, spring and summer)
  • Available 24/7
  • Taught by SACS-accredited instructors
  • Transcripted as regular UA freshman- and sophomore-level course credit
  • Also available on campus during summer term

Early College students may continue taking courses through the summer after high school graduation.

Plus, student-centered instructors, peer coaches, and a staff support team surround Early College students and parents with a strong support network. Students also have full access to University resources and technical support.
